The Swedish national team has roster spots open for three skaters and will add a couple of NHL players soon.

Nashville Predators defenceman Mattias Ekholm and Washington Capitals forward Andre Burakovsky agreed to join Tre Kronor for the World Championship pending formal approval by the NHL teams while Dallas Stars defenceman John Klingberg is going through medical examination for a possible World Championship stint.

For Ekholm it will be the third World Championship after 2014 and 2015. In 2014 he won a bronze medal and was named by the coaching staff as one of the best three players of his squad. For Klingberg, a World Junior Champion in 2012, it will be the second World Championship after last year while Burakovsky has never represented the men’s national team before.

Nashville forward Filip Forsberg will not join due to injury; neither will Dallas defenceman Johnny Oduya.

The team also registered Lulea HF goaltender Joel Lassinantti as third goaltender today.
